Guiden gir overordnet veiledning om direktivets anvendelsesomr\u00e5de mht. geografisk omr\u00e5de, valutasorter og transaksjoner inn og ut av EU (E\u00d8S). Videre gir dokumentet bl.a. en fortolkning definisjoner og omtale av bestemmelser knyttet til kundeautentisering og forholdet til tredjeparter (PIS og AIS).
